“Every one of us has been impacted by the epidemic of youth mental health disorders,” said McCormick. “I am determined to do all that I can to build on AIM’s mission to create a nationwide movement to discover better treatments for youth mental health disorders, raise awareness, and improve access to effective treatments.”

Prior to taking the position with AIM, McCormick served as executive director at Lindsay Wildlife Experience in Walnut Creek, YWCA Monterey County in Salinas, and the American Cetacean Society in San Pedro.  She is also the Founder and Chief Principal Strategist at Ascend Nonprofit Consulting and Executive Coaching.

Dr. McCormick was named Associate Scientist at the Center for Geospatial Research, Department of Geography, University of Georgia, in October 2017. She received a Certificate in Fundraising Management (CFRM) credential from Indiana University Lilly School of Philanthropy in April 2019.

“Cheryl brings a great deal of expertise that will help expand AIM’s impact at a national level,” said Susan Stilwell, founder of AIM. “AIM has made considerable progress leading the way in improving the lives of youth and their families, and with Cheryl’s leadership and the direction of our Board of Directors we aim to reach the 25% of youth struggling with their mental health.”

As Executive Director, McCormick will be responsible for the strategic direction and daily operations of AIM’s growing network in California and across the U.S.

McCormick resides in Carmel, California, at the Santa Lucia Preserve with her husband, contemporary photographer Bryant Austin.
